Vintage Modern Furniture
The Swanky Abode is a marketplace, and this is the part of it that was not made to order. These are vintage modern pieces that have come through the marketplace — American, Danish and European work by Arne Jacobsen, Børge Mogensen, Jens Risom, Harvey Probber, Paul McCobb, George Nelson and others, alongside single pieces whose maker is attributed rather than certain.
Most of what is here has sold. The pages stay up on purpose: they are the record of what has passed through, they are how a piece gets identified years later, and they are worth looking at whether or not the piece is still available. Where an item reads as sold, it is sold.
Vintage is the one part of this catalog that cannot be reordered. Unlike the made-to-order lines from the two American manufacturers The Swanky Abode represents — Craft Associates® and Bertu Home — a vintage piece exists once, in one finish, at one set of dimensions.
If you are looking for a particular designer, form or period, get in touch. Vintage arrives irregularly and is not always listed the day it lands.

This Paul McCobb gentleman's chest for Calvin Furniture : Irwin Collection is in good original condition. The brass has tarnishing / oxidation with age (we like the original wear). The wood is in very good condition for its age and does show well. There are normal imperfections with age (dings, nicks, etc). The doors do not sit perfectly flush in the front and sit a little uneven most likely due to expanding and contracting of the wood over the years. The mirror in the vanity section has a lot of blemishes over time (hard to picture), we did not anything special on the mirror to get them out. Overall the piece is beautiful and really has held up well and was lovingly taken care of the last 60-70 years. It is a beautiful piece of McCobb in original condition.

Lawrence Peabody Leather Lounge Chairs for Richardson Nemschoff
Lawrence “Larry” Peabody (1924-2002) was an architect, interior designer, and furniture designer. As an American born in Haverhill, Massachusetts, his distinctive design were often influenced by his Scandinavian roots. Lawrence studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, Denmark and at the Rhode Island School of Design. His early career with Selig Mfg. Co. was prolific and helped put both himself and Selig on the map for modern furniture. He then started Lawrence Peabody & Associates in 1955, a design firm in Boston which included a vast client list (Sears, Roebuck & Co., Kohler, Regal Rugs, Boyd Lighting, Chapman Lamps, and Richardson Brothers).
In 1961, Mr. Peabody won a Citation for Merit for his Peabody Collection for Richardson/ Nemschoff. Winner of the 1962 International A.I.D. design award for his wood frame rattan cradle chair, he also received the Walnut Classic Award for outstanding established collection of furniture executed in walnut. Craft Associates® Furniture is honored to have acquired the rights to produce licensed Lawrence Peabody designed furniture.
