history

Lawrence "Larry" Peabody (1924-2002) was an architect, interior designer, and furniture designer. As an American born in Haverhill, Massachusetts, his distinctive design were often influenced by his Scandinavian roots. Lawrence studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, Denmark and at the Rhode Island School of Design. His early career with Selig Mfg. Co. was prolific and helped put both himself and Selig on the map for modern furniture. He then started Lawrence Peabody & Associates in 1955, a design firm in Boston which included a vast client list (Sears, Roebuck & Co., Kohler, Regal Rugs, Boyd Lighting, Chapman Lamps, and Richardson Brothers).

In 1961, Mr. Peabody won a Citation for Merit for his Peabody Collection for Richardson/ Nemschoff. Winner of the 1962 International A.I.D. design award for his wood frame rattan cradle chair, he also received the Walnut Classic Award for outstanding established collection of furniture executed in walnut. This Solid Walnut Side Table - The Dublin is made in the heart of Ohio with locally sourced wood. The walnut table can be used for a side table, a stool (the 18" for dining seat height), or grouped together for a coffee table. Each one is made from a solid trunk of walnut and the corners are beautifully angled and sculpted. Each piece is hand sawed, sanded, and sprayed with a commercial grade finish. Every part of the process is handled with care to honor the unique markings of each tree. PLEASE NOTE: THESE ARE PRONE TO CRACKING. WE LOVE THE LOOK BUT THESE DEFINITELY ARE NOT FOR THE PERSON WHO WANTS A PERFECT SQUARE.... LOTS OF CHARACTER. Cracks can even be as big as 1/2" wide due to proper drying in our kiln. The idea is that most of the cracking happens before it is sprayed, shipped, and in its new home. These are all slightly different in character and they may vary in size - No two pieces are exactly alike. Our team and clients absolutely love these.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT OUR STUMPS...

1. Please unpack your stump immediately and leave it out of any packaging. These are real pieces of wood and need to breathe!

2. For OUTDOOR stumps : Though these are kiln dried and the wood can be used outdoors, sometimes when they arrive in different climates, humidity levels adjust and can affect the finish on top. We see this more often in direct sunlight. We do our very best and continue to make sure there are no issues, but we can not control climate. Solid wood and the elements are unpredictable and we will not be liable. The great thing about these logs is you can always sand them down and refinish.

3. Wood naturally moves. These are solid pieces and for that reason, they are prone to cracking. You may get more cracks or bigger cracks in the first few weeks as the wood acclimates to its new home and climate.

4. These stump tables have nylon glides (feet) underneath not only to make them easier to move around (they are heavy!), but also so there is nice air flow to the wood.
