Lawrence "Larry" Peabody (1924-2002) was an architect, interior designer, and furniture designer. As an American born in Haverhill, Massachusetts, his distinctive design were often influenced by his Scandinavian roots. Lawrence studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, Denmark and at the Rhode Island School of Design. His early career with Selig Mfg. Co. was prolific and helped put both himself and Selig on the map for modern furniture. He then started Lawrence Peabody & Associates in 1955, a design firm in Boston which included a vast client list (Sears, Roebuck & Co., Kohler, Regal Rugs, Boyd Lighting, Chapman Lamps, and Richardson Brothers).

In 1961, Mr. Peabody won a Citation for Merit for his Peabody Collection for Richardson/ Nemschoff. Winner of the 1962 International A.I.D. design award for his wood frame rattan cradle chair, he also received the Walnut Classic Award for outstanding established collection of furniture executed in walnut. Craft Associates® Furniture is honored to have acquired the rights to produce licensed Lawrence Peabody designed furniture.

The Oak Suelo® Sofa with Storage and Side Table is a modern platform sofa, made to order from solid oak in Ohio, USA. Its low, sleek silhouette is simple and organic, with generous back and seat cushions and a wood platform that extends into an integrated side table. Three large drawers sit beneath the seat, each with a cut-out pull, so storage stays out of sight. The cushions on this Suelo® sofa are wider than our normal seat, sitting each at 32" across. The Suelo® Collection consists of an arm chair, side chair, bench, daybed, loveseat, ottoman, dining chairs - both arm and side, and multiple orientations of sofas/sectionals for indoor or outdoor use. You can get any Suelo piece in a solid or slatted version. This specific wood species is for indoor only; please contact for outdoor options. So many places that inspire me have very minimal furniture, often built-in sofas with big comfy cushions, hammocks, raw natural wood, etc. The feel is low-key, simple, and comfortable. The wood isn't refined, it just IS. Functionality always plays into my designs as well, represented here by lower seating for a more intimate talking or lounging environment, and the platform wood extension detail on the sofa, which makes a great little table for your drink or cell phone. I envision this furniture used for indoor/outdoor spaces or any room that needs some comfort or relief. The Suelo line reminds me of your own getaway - it has a natural, cool vibe and doesn't take itself too seriously. history
Lawrence "Larry" Peabody (1924-2002) was an architect, interior designer, and furniture designer. As an American born in Haverhill, Massachusetts, his distinctive design were often influenced by his Scandinavian roots. Lawrence studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, Denmark and at the Rhode Island School of Design. His early career with Selig Mfg. Co. was prolific and helped put both himself and Selig on the map for modern furniture. He then started Lawrence Peabody & Associates in 1955, a design firm in Boston which included a vast client list (Sears, Roebuck & Co., Kohler, Regal Rugs, Boyd Lighting, Chapman Lamps, and Richardson Brothers).

In 1961, Mr. Peabody won a Citation for Merit for his Peabody Collection for Richardson/ Nemschoff. Winner of the 1962 International A.I.D. design award for his wood frame rattan cradle chair, he also received the Walnut Classic Award for outstanding established collection of furniture executed in walnut. Craft Associates® Furniture is honored to have acquired the rights to produce licensed Lawrence Peabody designed furniture.
