history
Lawrence "Larry" Peabody (1924–2002) was an architect, interior designer, and furniture designer. Born in Haverhill, Massachusetts, his distinctive work was often influenced by his Scandinavian roots. He studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, Denmark and at the Rhode Island School of Design. His early career with Selig Mfg. Co. was prolific and helped put both himself and Selig on the map for modern furniture. He then founded Lawrence Peabody & Associates in 1955, a Boston design firm with a vast client list (Sears, Roebuck & Co., Kohler, Regal Rugs, Boyd Lighting, Chapman Lamps, and Richardson Brothers).

In 1961, Mr. Peabody won a Citation for Merit for his Peabody Collection for Richardson/Nemschoff. Winner of the 1962 International A.I.D. design award for his wood-frame rattan cradle chair, he also received the Walnut Classic Award for an outstanding established collection of furniture executed in walnut. The Small Wing Chair brings tailored modern lines to a compact, high-backed silhouette wrapped in soft mohair — a modern luxury wing chair scaled for intimate rooms. Craft Associates® builds each modern wing chair to order in the United States, shaping its hardwood frame and oil-finished walnut base entirely by hand. The most private of the studio's wing chairs, it settles naturally into a reading corner or a close seating group.

About the mohair: the Mohair option is strictly mohair and is not two-toned. The front is mohair and the back is a floral pattern, but the upholstery is all mohair.

Its hardwood frame is built by hand rather than by machine, then upholstered over hand-cut high-density foam in the fabric of your choice, or in black leather on the walnut finishes. Made to order in the United States, it gives a modern living room a single confident piece to gather around.

The walnut base is shaped by artisans and finished with a hand applied oil OR commercial grade finish.
