The Modern Wood Beam Coffee Table is a handcrafted, organic-modern centerpiece — built from solid beams of rough-cut maple, artisan-made by the Bertu Home family in the heart of Ohio. Each beam is hand sawed, sanded, and finished with a durable commercial-grade finish that honors the natural markings of the wood.

This is a true one-of-a-kind work of art. Expect character: the maple is prone to cracking — cracks can run up to 1/2" wide from proper kiln drying — and larger cracks are reinforced with hand-set bowtie inlays. No two tables are exactly alike. It isn't for someone who wants a perfect square; it's for someone who loves natural, sculptural, modern wood furniture.

Each stump is made from a solid trunk of rough cut maple and each is hand sawed, sanded, and sprayed with a commercial grade finish. Every part of the process is handled with care to honor the unique markings of each tree. PLEASE NOTE: THESE ARE PRONE TO CRACKING. WE LOVE THE LOOK BUT THESE DEFINITELY ARE NOT FOR THE PERSON WHO WANTS A PERFECT SQUARE.... LOTS OF CHARACTER. Cracks can even be as big as 1/2" wide due to proper drying in our kiln. Our stumps all go through a drying process in our kiln, sometimes for up to a month. We are meticulous with bringing each and every log to a specific moisture level. This process helps with major cracking, long-term moisture issues, and bugs.

ECO FRIENDLY

In an effort to replenish the trees we use, we plant 50+ trees a year. In addition, we practice salvage logging. Where do we source these? Some of the trees fall naturally. Some have damage from severe wind, lightning, flood, disease, or other natural disturbance so they need to be cut and removed before they fall. Others are fresh cut because people want them off their land. Salvage logging may reduce erosion, reduce intensity of future wildfires, and slow buildup of pest insects.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT OUR STUMPS...

1. Please unpack your stump immediately and leave it out of any packaging. These are real pieces of wood and need to breathe!

2. For OUTDOOR stumps : Though these are kiln dried and the wood can be used outdoors, sometimes when they arrive in different climates, humidity levels adjust and can affect the finish on top. We see this more often in direct sunlight. We do our very best and continue to make sure there are no issues, but we can not control climate. Solid wood and the elements are unpredictable and we will not be liable. The great thing about these logs is you can always sand them down and refinish.

3. Wood naturally moves. These are solid pieces and for that reason, they are prone to cracking. You may get more cracks or bigger cracks in the first few weeks as the wood acclimates to its new home and climate.

4. These stump tables have nylon glides (feet) underneath not only to make them easier to move around (they are heavy!), but also so there is nice air flow to the wood. The air flow is most effective on hard flooring. If you put these on rugs or carpeting, we suggest checking on the underside of your stump periodically to prevent any issues.

1. Please unpack your stump immediately. These are real pieces of wood and need to breathe!
2. Wood naturally moves. These are solid pieces and for that reason, they are prone to cracking. You may get more cracks or bigger cracks in the first few weeks as the wood acclimates to its new home and climate.
3. These stump tables have nylon glides (feet) underneath not only to make them easier to move around (they are heavy!), but also so there is nice air flow to the wood. The air flow is most effective on hard flooring. If you put these on rugs or carpeting, we suggest checking on the underside of your stump periodically to prevent any issues.

Drawing inspiration from fellow Californians Charles and Ray Eames, Baughman's designs exuded a relaxed and breezy air, steering clear from ostentatious designs. His aesthetic simplicity was exceptionally profound, relying heavily on sturdy flat-bar chromed metal for seating and table frames, beautifully figured wood veneers and balanced geometric proportions.

These Lawrence Peabody side tables for Richardson Nemschoff are in excellent restored condition. The elm wood has been professionally refinished. There are four tables available, pricing is for a pair of two. These side tables are perfectly proportioned and can also be used as stools if you have cushions made. Price listed is for a pair.

history

Lawrence “Larry” Peabody (1924-2002) was an architect, interior designer, and furniture designer. As an American born in Haverhill, Massachusetts, his distinctive design were often influenced by his Scandinavian roots. Lawrence studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, Denmark and at the Rhode Island School of Design. His early career with Selig Mfg. Co. was prolific and helped put both himself and Selig on the map for modern furniture. He then started Lawrence Peabody & Associates in 1955, a design firm in Boston which included a vast client list (Sears, Roebuck & Co., Kohler, Regal Rugs, Boyd Lighting, Chapman Lamps, and Richardson Brothers). In 1961, Mr. Peabody won a Citation for Merit for his Peabody Collection for Richardson/ Nemschoff. Winner of the 1962 International A.I.D. design award for his wood frame rattan cradle chair, he also received the Walnut Classic Award for outstanding established collection of furniture executed in walnut. Craft Associates Furniture is honored to have acquired the rights to produce licensed Lawrence Peabody designed furniture.
