This stool is both current and timeless. We absolutely love these.

The Boca is Bertu Home's turned counter stool — made in the heart of Ohio from two pieces of solid maple that are kiln-dried and then turned on the lathe. The result is a soft, columnar, unmistakably modern form with the warmth of real wood and a clean, hand-shaped line. It is organic modern furniture at its most refined: modern luxury drawn from natural material.

Every stool is turned, hand-sanded, and sealed with a durable commercial-grade finish built for real use — a kitchen island, a hospitality bar, or a designer's counter seating. Because maple is a natural material, grain and tone vary from piece to piece, so no two are exactly alike. And because it is solid wood, a Boca may develop natural cracks over time — a hallmark of the material that we embrace rather than hide; when a crack opens, our team hand-sets a bowtie inlay to stabilize it and make it part of the piece's character. Living with your Boca

1. Unpack your stool right away and leave it out of any packaging — this is real wood and needs to breathe.

2. Solid wood naturally moves. Your Boca may develop cracks as it acclimates to your home's climate; this is normal, and any crack that continues to open is stabilized with a hand-set bowtie inlay. Keep the stool out of prolonged direct sun and away from heat sources to help preserve the finish.

3. Nylon glides underneath make the stool easier to move (they are heavy) and allow airflow to the wood. Airflow is most effective on hard flooring; on rugs or carpet, check the underside periodically.

Lawrence "Larry" Peabody (1924-2002) was an architect, interior designer, and furniture designer. As an American born in Haverhill, Massachusetts, his distinctive design were often influenced by his Scandinavian roots. Lawrence studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, Denmark and at the Rhode Island School of Design. His early career with Selig Mfg. Co. was prolific and helped put both himself and Selig on the map for modern furniture. He then started Lawrence Peabody & Associates in 1955, a design firm in Boston which included a vast client list (Sears, Roebuck & Co., Kohler, Regal Rugs, Boyd Lighting, Chapman Lamps, and Richardson Brothers).

In 1961, Mr. Peabody won a Citation for Merit for his Peabody Collection for Richardson/ Nemschoff. Winner of the 1962 International A.I.D. design award for his wood frame rattan cradle chair, he also received the Walnut Classic Award for outstanding established collection of furniture executed in walnut. Craft Associates® Furniture is honored to have acquired the rights to produce licensed Lawrence Peabody designed furniture.

This Brinx Solid Wood Stool is made in the heart of Ohio with locally sourced wood. The stump can be used for a side table, a dining height stool, or grouped together for a larger architectural table. Each stool is made from a solid trunk of maple and is beautifully hand sculpted. Each piece is hand sawed, sanded, and sprayed with a commercial grade "Aged" finish. Other finish colors available! Every part of the process is handled with care to honor the unique markings of each tree. PLEASE NOTE: THESE ARE PRONE TO CRACKING. WE LOVE THE LOOK BUT THESE DEFINITELY ARE NOT FOR THE PERSON WHO WANTS A PERFECT PIECE.... LOTS OF CHARACTER. Cracks can even be as big as 1/2" wide due to proper drying in our kiln. The idea is that most of the cracking happens before it is sprayed, shipped, and in its new home. These are all slightly different in character and they may vary in size - No two pieces are exactly alike. Our team and clients absolutely love these.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT OUR STUMPS...

1. Please unpack your stump immediately and leave it out of any packaging. These are real pieces of wood and need to breathe!

2. For OUTDOOR stumps : Though these are kiln dried and the wood can be used outdoors, sometimes when they arrive in different climates, humidity levels adjust and can affect the finish on top. We see this more often in direct sunlight. We do our very best and continue to make sure there are no issues, but we can not control climate. Solid wood and the elements are unpredictable and we will not be liable. The great thing about these logs is you can always sand them down and refinish.

3. Wood naturally moves. These are solid pieces and for that reason, they are prone to cracking. You may get more cracks or bigger cracks in the first few weeks as the wood acclimates to its new home and climate.

4. These stump tables have nylon glides (feet) underneath not only to make them easier to move around (they are heavy!), but also so there is nice air flow to the wood. The air flow is most effective on hard flooring. If you put these on rugs or carpeting, we suggest checking on the underside of your stump periodically to prevent any issues.
