Lawrence “Larry” Peabody (1924-2002) was an architect, interior designer, and furniture designer. As an American born in Haverhill, Massachusetts, his distinctive design were often influenced by his Scandinavian roots. Lawrence studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, Denmark and at the Rhode Island School of Design. His early career with Selig Mfg. Co. was prolific and helped put both himself and Selig on the map for modern furniture. He then started Lawrence Peabody & Associates in 1955, a design firm in Boston which included a vast client list (Sears, Roebuck & Co., Kohler, Regal Rugs, Boyd Lighting, Chapman Lamps, and Richardson Brothers).

In 1961, Mr. Peabody won a Citation for Merit for his Peabody Collection for Richardson/ Nemschoff. Winner of the 1962 International A.I.D. design award for his wood frame rattan cradle chair, he also received the Walnut Classic Award for outstanding established collection of furniture executed in walnut. Craft Associates® Furniture is honored to have acquired the rights to produce licensed Lawrence Peabody designed furniture.

Designer Inspiration: "The Suelo® Collection was inspired by my love for travel. So many places that inspire me have very minimal furniture, often built-in sofas with big comfy cushions, hammocks, raw natural wood, etc. The feel is low-key, simple, and comfortable. The wood isn't refined, it just IS. Functionality always plays into my designs as well, represented here by lower seating for a more intimate talking or lounging environment, and the platform wood extension detail on the sofa, which makes a great little table for your drink or cell phone. I envision this furniture used for indoor/outdoor spaces or any room that needs some comfort or relief. The Suelo® line reminds me of your own getaway - it has a natural, cool vibe and doesn't take itself too seriously. I imagine the sofa loaded up with pillows and some music playing in the background, of course." -Gretta Jones

 Trenchard Modern Upholstered Bench - 1710 is expertly crafted and upholstered. The bench boasts hand cut high-density foam and commercial grade fabric (linen shown here). The base is constructed by hand from a combination of bent wrought iron and solid hard wood; not from machine. The wrought iron legs are then shaped by artisans and finished by powder coating.
