The Drift Tree Trunk Side Table is an organic-modern side table, hand-cut from a solid trunk of rough-cut maple by the makers at Bertu Home in the heart of Ohio. Use a single stump as a modern side table, nightstand, or stool, or group several as a sculptural coffee table — each hand sawed, sanded, and finished with a durable commercial-grade finish that honors the unique markings of the wood. Made to order, and no two pieces are exactly alike.
Please note: these are prone to cracking — that is the character of solid wood. Cracks can be as wide as 1/2" due to the drying process; the idea is that most cracking happens before the piece is sprayed, shipped, and in its new home. Sizes and markings vary slightly from stump to stump.

Kiln dried. Our stumps all go through a drying process in our kiln, sometimes for up to a month, brought to a specific moisture level. This helps with major cracking, long-term moisture issues, and bugs.
Eco friendly. To replenish the trees we use, we plant 50+ trees a year and practice salvage logging. Some trees fall naturally; some are damaged by wind, lightning, flood, disease, or other disturbance and must be removed; others are cut because people want them off their land. Salvage logging may reduce erosion, reduce the intensity of future wildfires, and slow the buildup of pest insects.

Important information about our stumps
1. Please unpack your stump immediately and leave it out of any packaging. These are real pieces of wood and need to breathe!
2. For outdoor stumps: though these are kiln dried and can be used outdoors, humidity in different climates can affect the top finish, most often in direct sunlight. We do our best, but we cannot control climate, and solid wood and the elements are unpredictable. The great thing about these logs is you can always sand them down and refinish.
3. Wood naturally moves. These are solid pieces and are prone to cracking. You may get more or bigger cracks in the first few weeks as the wood acclimates to its new home and climate.
4. These stump tables have nylon glides (feet) underneath to make them easier to move (they are heavy!) and to allow airflow to the wood. Airflow is most effective on hard flooring; on rugs or carpet, check the underside periodically.
