The New York is a weathered, grey-washed dining table in solid pine, its tapered legs giving an otherwise rustic surface a modern edge. Bertu Home hand-finishes each top with a distressed matte wash in Ohio, so the grain still reads through the color. It doubles easily as a desk, and its worn finish only settles in further with use.

Lawrence "Larry" Peabody (1924-2002) was an architect, interior designer, and furniture designer. As an American born in Haverhill, Massachusetts, his distinctive design were often influenced by his Scandinavian roots. Lawrence studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, Denmark and at the Rhode Island School of Design. His early career with Selig Mfg. Co. was prolific and helped put both himself and Selig on the map for modern furniture. He then started Lawrence Peabody & Associates in 1955, a design firm in Boston which included a vast client list (Sears, Roebuck & Co., Kohler, Regal Rugs, Boyd Lighting, Chapman Lamps, and Richardson Brothers).

In 1961, Mr. Peabody won a Citation for Merit for his Peabody Collection for Richardson/ Nemschoff. "Contemporary design at its timeless best." One of the most influential American furniture designers of the late 20th century, Milo Baughman, embodied contemporary design and adeptness in every creation. His work mainly revolved around residential furnishings. His Gallery 1 includes a variety of useful and simple contemporary pieces for the home.

Drawing inspiration from fellow Californians Charles and Ray Eames, Baughman's designs exuded a relaxed and breezy air, steering clear from ostentatious designs. His aesthetic simplicity was exceptionally profound, relying heavily on sturdy flat-bar chromed metal for seating and table frames, beautifully figured wood veneers and balanced geometric proportions.
